La mwawvariatio (voce mwbalatina mwbqderivata da mwbgvariare, «variare») è un procedimento che consiste nel modificare a livello mwbwfonetico, mwcagrammaticale, mwcqsintattico-mwcgmorfologico o mwcwsemantico i meccanismi della mwdaripetizione, soprattutto quando non sono retoricamente motivati. Può anche essere definita opposta alla mwdqconcinnitas della letteratura: alla simmetria e alla scorrevolezza di quest'ultima si contrappone un ritmo spezzato e mai banale.

Uno degli autori latini che fa più uso di questo artificio è sicuramente mwdwSallustio, seguito da mweaTacito e da mweqSeneca.

Forme di variatio sono la mwewsinonimia, la mwfaparonomasia e il mwfqpoliptoto.
